To Aru Kagaku no Railgun 12

What better episode to start my To Aru Kagaku no Railgun coverage then the epic-ness of episode 12!

Let me start off by saying I wasnt a big fan of the first series (To Aru Majutsu no Index). However, there was bright spot for me: Misaka Mikoto. So when I heard that the “second season” has Mikoto as the main heroine, I know I had to watch. So far, I’ve been pleasantly surprised with this series. I’m much more drawn to it then Index. Yes, Mikoto has A LOT to do with that, but it’s also other things. The big thing is the pacing, the episodes (most of them anyway) don’t seem as drawn out as they were in Index. I felt that they didn’t cover a lot in Index, and the “ending” left more questions than answers. Another thing I like about this series is it’s use of Toma. He in my opinion is a much better supporting character rather than main lead, and his interactions with Mikoto are priceless.

Episode 12 was an awesome end to the first arc, which basically took up all first 12 episodes. Although they featured side stories to establish character relations and stuff (and standalone, the stories were pretty good), I thought it was really cool how they all had little connections that added up to the conclusion we got here in Episode 12. I thought the Level Upper story was interesting as well. All that being said, I though that Fetus-Monster that came out of  Kiyama-Sensei was a bit ridiculous, and would rather see more of her fight as a multi-user. However, the big monster enemy gave us the opportunity to see Mikoto strut her stuff as the #3 Level 5 Esper in an epic fight:

I also couldn’t help feeling there has to be a connection between the brain network talk here and the MISAKA-NETWORK story featured in Index. It would be quite ironic, given Mikoto’s involvement in this incident. However, it doesn’t look like much of that will be covered next episode, as it looks like we’re getting a beach episode. I can’t get to hyped up about that, because while yes most anime mow days involve high-schoolgirl fanservice (which is okay for a young-in like me ;-) ), you forget Mikoto and friends are in middle school! And a service episode is just….wrong. Oh well, here’s hoping for some lulz!

Oh yeah, and no Railgun episode is complete without some:

One-sided yuri love!
