Ah yes Natsuru, in the pantheon of harem-male-leads, you were the pussiest of them all! Read on for my thoughts on an anime that could have been good, but in the end was a whole lot of sameness. On this blog, I’ll be sharing my views on various animes I’m keeping up with. I know Kampfer technically done, but episode 11 was the ending to the story proper, and next weeks is supposed to be an extra. So I’ll share my final thoughts now.
Honestly, Shizuku was the only reason I was keeping up with this anime. In the beginning it felt like it was gonna be a typical boy has crush on girl and makes progress with her kinda shows. Of course, with the gender-bender aspect thrown in, but honestly, even that lost its flavor with me after half way through. However, right around episode 4, Shizuku began to steal the show! It was refreshing to see that type of girl who can give it up like that. Why cant more girls in anime be like her! Especially lead heroines! That being said, I believe towards the end of the series when little miss bitch (Kaeda in case you were wondering) began showing her true colors, I really believe Shizuku became the lead heroine. But it was probably a case of to little, to late. And we end up with a lame ass fight, typical harem end (where no one wins!), and nothing got resolved!!
My main gripe with this anime though was the main character himself: Senou Natsuru. Never in a long while have I wanted to reach into my computer screen and punch a main character in the face more than Natsuru. The three girls (Shizuku, Akane, and Mikoto) were practically throwing themselves at him, and yet he remained “dedicated” to Kaede. And in the end she flat-out rejected him (well his male self anyway)! Meanwhile, while he was obsessing over the wrong girl, EVERY fan of the show’s favorite girl: Shizuku, was taking matters into her own hands and:
and this….
and this…
and this…
and even this!….
Seriously, how much more “hints” do you need! You’re obsessing over the wrong girl!! You have to feel sorry for Shizuku, because even if her methods may seem a bit “slutty”, throughout the series you can see that she genuinely seems to like Natsuru. I’ve no idea why anyone would like an idiot like that, but I guess that’s another topic for another day.
I love harem animes, I really do. And I know how they always turn out. And it continues to piss me off that my favorite girls never seems to win. And yet I still watch them. So in conclusion, I guess you could say I enjoyed the ride to the end, but the end itself left me……….meh. As usual. Oh well, here’s looking forward to the next one!
