Ever been confused what the differences between Great Britain, Britain, England and the United Kingdom were? Well, I certainly have. Especially after watching some of that Code Geass anime a while ago. It’s a good watch, really. Each episode is about 40 minutes, so if you multiply that by 12, you get around 8 hours of Japanese anime goodness. But wait, there’s more!
Quick side note. Check this out. And rest in peace Billy Mays.
There are currently two seasons, so you get a total of 16 hours worth of giant mechas fighting with grapple hooks and medieval lances retrofitted to tear through titanium armor and energy shields.
Now back on topic.
Let’s look at each of these terms individually.
- Great Britain is the 9th largest island on the face of the globe, situated next to the island of Ireland.
- Britain is the commonly spoken variation of the United Kingdom.
- England is the southern part of Great Britain, the island. Welcome to The Island.
- United Kingdom is the country, or a “sovereign state” as stated on good ol’ Wikipedia, and is more formally known as the “United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland”.
God Save the Queen. That is all.
